I was looking through some old papers of my mom's a few days ago and came across a newspaper clipping from July 1961 that relates to Brenda.

Back in 1961, the EMC Lions Club held a "minature parade" for the 4th of July.  It went up or down Evergreen Avenue from the church at 2700 E to Evergreen Park just below 2300 E.  We also got to have the same float in the 24th of July parade down Main Street (or was it down State?).  The Lions held a competition and picked a King and Queen and two Attendants.  Brenda was one of the two Attendants, and I was the King.  I still have my trophy cup and the newspaper clipping.  A girl named Jane Furr was the Queen and Albert Ungricht was the other Attendant.  Jane now lives in Austin and Albert is still in SLC I think.  We were all 5 or 6 at the time.

So, I have a connection to Brenda that I had almost forgotten about, and that most of you have not ever heard about.

RIP Brenda!

I loved Brenda so much, we were good friends in Junior high School!   She was so darling and smart and talented.  I'll always remember her different colored eyes, they were gorgeous!  She had such a funny personality as well,  She went way too soon which was so devastating.  Rest in  Peace sweet girl!

David the memory at 5 years old is fun, thanks for sharing, the parade memories into Evergreen Park and time at the booths and on the pumpkin start for me around 10 years old.
Brenda as a musician, smart and lovely are my memories of her and Tanya her eyes were mesmerizing, thanks for reminding me of them. What an accomplished life Brenda lived in the short time she had on earth.

Cancer sucks, classmates Brenda was a beautiful hard working lady that had a horrible ending with her cancer, way to early in life. What do they say about only the good die young? As each of you go through your trials in life, May your struggles be lightened by the love of family and friends. Brenda you were loved.

Yes she went waaaay too young.  Way too many of our classmates are gone as well.

Brenda and I lived on the same street, with just one house (the William's boys) between us. We were really good friends and went to the Graduation Prom and Wasatch Junior High together. When registering for classes at Skyline, she told me she registered for a drama class. It sounded like fun, so I registered for one as well. We weren't in the same drama class, but drama changed my life. I met great people like Chris Bateman, Vince Raia, Liz Welti, Suzy Hunsaker, George Ellsmore, Scott Zog, Craig Shipler and many others because of that initial group. I will always be indebted to Brenda for that. Once, when she was practicing for a Modern Dance performance, she asked me to drop by her house to critique her performance. Of course, she absolutely nailed the dance. She danced to James Taylor's song, "Fire and Rain". I still can't listen to that song, even after all these years, without thinking of her and how tragic it was for such a bright, talented and smart person to pass away at such a young age. Liz and Suzy are both gone now, too. Humbling beyond words.

Brenda and I attended First Grade together at East Millcreek Elementary. I remember that I and all other  boys in the class thought she was the cutest girl in the whole school. We all liked her a lot and wanted her attention. Who wouldn't? We used to chase her around the playground during recess because we thought somehow she would like one of us back. I am not sure it worked - probably not.

But, boy -oh - boy, she was cute.

Oh, she was really extraordinary.  I was so pleased to read about all the ways she had excelled post high school.  We lived in the same neighborhood and especially in junior high in our 9th grade year, we were together alot.  She was a regular gal, but smart and had the way of saying something funny with not the hint of a smile.  I remember going to her house and her mom, dad and younger brothers were very kind to me.  She is missed.

Brenda and I spent some time together senior year. I recall that she was a talented violinist as well as a dancer. We went skiing together once. We always had fun. When we both went away to college, we kept in touch by mail for a whille. I lost track of her after college. I was veery sad to hear of her untimely death.

I still have a hard time believing that Brenda is gone. She was such an integral part of my memories of Skyline, especially my junior year and pepclub.  Brenda, Theresa, and I were best buds, and will forever be the Hummellettes (you had to be there).  I remember her laugh as if it were yesterday.  It wasn't until I read her obituary did I realize how smart she actually was.  I was so proud to see all her accomplishments, but I grieve for the life that she missed out on. She definitely was taken too soon.  Rest in peace beautiful Brenda.
