I remember going out for football as a sophomore and making the varsity team as a defensive nose guard. After making the team I remember having second thoughts about playing and decided to quite and focus my time on throwing the shot put the discuss. I remember Ken Schmidt being madder than a hornet when I told him that I had made the decision to quite. for the rest of my time at skyline I walked on eggshells around coach Schmidt. Years later after setting the school record which I think I still hold and the state record in the shot putt (which was broken a few years ago), I was competing for the University of Utah and we had a track meet at BYU. Ken was now coaching football at BYU. During the track meet he came up to me and apologized for how he responded, and told me that I had made the right choice. That really meant a lot to me.
The other experience I remember was when I was a senior, I signed up for an easy drafting class, mainly because I wanted to spend time lifting weights and not going to class. First day of call I told Mr. Nye, that I intended to be spend time in the weight room and not in class. He told me that in order to pass I had to at least show up once or twice a week. He said that if I did that I could draw anything I liked. I agreed. the first day he asked if I wanted to design and draft a house. That sounded better than an exploding odometer. I found out over the course of the year that I loved design and drawing. He entered my work in the state fair and I won first place. That started my love for architecture and ultimately lead to my selecting architecture as my profession.

Rebecca, Thank you for posting all of those photos of the reunion from Friday and Saturday. I it is really fun to go back and look at those. Both events were great! Thank you.
Impressive resume Dave and great school stories. You've done yourself proud! Mr. Nye never gave me any advice like he gave you. That Roach Runt! Ha Ha!! I enjoyed my architecture class at the U of U and it made me a fan of the artform.
I remember Marty, he was always full of energy and so open and freindly. I did not realized he passed until last night at the reunion when I saw his picture along with so many others. Rest in peace my freind.

Kim was one of those guys you just enjoyed being around. It didnt matter if you were in class or in the locker room he was alway happy, fun and frendly. He befrended everyone and made everyone feel better for just being around him. Kim was one of the guys i was hoping to see at the reunion and when I leaned of his passing I was heartbroken. Such a great person.
Paul, it has been a long time since we were together throwing the shot put at skyline. I have enjoyed bumping into you around town periodically. Hope you are well and I look forward to seeing you at the reunion.
