Roy is super cool.  I first met Roy when Wasatch played Churchill in basketball. I remember Churchill took it to us.  I became good friends with Roy when  we played basketball together at Skyline.  I also sat by Roy in Geometry. I don't think either of us got it. Mrs Merrill was a terrific teacher. I never thought planes were very plain.

After highschool we hung out a lot. Always playing basketball every Saturday morning at 8:00. Even if I went to bed at 2:00, I still made it so I could play with Roy. One morning I brought a black friend to play basketball  on Saturday.  We played in the cove, east bench. I could tell he was a little nervous at first playing with all the pasty white boys he had never met. When we were driving home after playing, he told me how much fun he had and how Roy went out of his way to make him feel comfortable and relaxed. I looked at him and said, that's Roy, he is a friend to everyone. It made me proud that day that Roy was my friend.

Roy made everyone feel comfortable. He was the leader, organizer. He made it happen. I did three triathlons with Roy. Rode our bikes up Millcreek canyon. I could never keep up with Roy. He was always in amazing shape.

We played countless games of recreational basketball. Always in the A league.  Roy was the organizer, paid the money up front. I hope everyone reimbursed him. We were always very competitive. I still have the large trophy Roy gave me when we took second after a hard fought championship game. We play in many skyline alumni tournaments.   We were one of the top teams. Even though many of the teams were a lot younger than us. I still have two of the trophies. I keep the trophies mostly because it helps me remember Roy.

Anybody who knew Roy very well could tell how much he loved his wife Cheri. It was easy to see it in his eyes.  Cheri loved sports as much as Roy. Perfect match. Roy also left behind three young beautiful daughters which he loved with all his heart.   Wonderful husband and father.

We both complained to each other about how boring our jobs were. I guess we thought we would have interesting jobs with master's degrees. Roy changed that. He started his own business.
I think of Roy often. I guess Forrest Gump was right when his good friend Buba died. " Good friends are hard to find".  May God bless Roy for eternity.

I knew Roy from elementary school and junior high, but we didn't get to know each other well until we sat by each other in a class our senior year and discovered our love of Dragnet, of all things.  "Just the facts ma'am."  We became good friends and spent a lot of time together that year and beyond.

Roy took me to the Elvis Presley concent when he came to Salt Lake City.  I don't think either of us really liked Elvis, but we kniew it would be a once in a lifetime experience.  I remember him saying that this would be something we could one day tell our grandchildren about.  Unfortunately, he hever got that opportunity, and my grandchildren don't even know who Elvis is.

I'm grateful I had the opportunity to see Roy at his vacation home in Midway.before his death.  He knew he had his heart condition, but it didn't stop him from doing the things he loved, especially his biking.  I remember his funeral was packed with hundreds of people who loved this great man.  Butler Elementary honored him on a billboard sign where he spent countless hours volunteering, and he had a newpaper column dedicated to him also.

Roy was a dear friend and I'm so grateful to have known him.

Roy was my hero in Junior High and High School. I lived in an area that came from a different elementry school and so at Churchill I didnt have many freinds. Roy was one of the first freinds I had. He loved to play basketball and I wanted to play on the chruchill team. During tryouts Roy was never in doubt about making the team and he showed so much kindness to all the others. When you were with Roy, he made you feel like you were the most important person to him. Those three years at chruchill were wonderful bacause of freinds like Roy. As we got to high school at Skyline, Roy continued to play basketball and I moved forward with Track. While we were not as close when we did get togther and hangout it was always a great time. He was a true freind and one that I always looked up to. Rest in peace my freind.

Roy was someone I knew only a little, but liked a lot. Brad Carter, Mike Nelson Roy and myself went on a road trip after graduation in a motorhome, to the worlds fair in Seattle and parts between SLC and there. He was always a pleasure to be with. I'm not surprised by all the great things others had to say about him here.
