For those who don't know, Poole coached many Skyline State Track Champion teams before he left to become the BYU women's Track Coach. He has spent the past over 20 years coaching Olympic athletes while living in the San Diego area working for the US Olympic Track Team and consulting at regional universities. His last athlete competed in the 2024 Games in the Heptathlon. He was also the track coach at Churchill for 3 years from 1969 to 1971.

Paul, we were all heartbroken to learn of Leslie passing. The funeral service was so enlighting of your life with Leslie. She was such a vivacious  and spirited person who loved life. The two of you were perfect for each other. May God Bless you and your family.

I am just checking in from SE Texas to report in.  Its been a while for me.  

First off, any classmates that were in the path of Hurricane Helene, I offer my condolences and sympathy.  I have a step-sibling in TN that was affected pretty bad.  And several friends that moved to NC to get away from the Gulf Coast took the brunt of the flooding issues.  Anyone that thinks climate change is not real needs to look at these storms that blow up fast and then intensify so rapidly as they approach land.  Beryl did the same to us.  It was a massive storm in Atlantic and Caribbean that backed off, only to roar back to life at landfall.  Not a lot of rain, but ferocious winds.    

My health issues from my renal failure issue after Hurricane Beryl in July are still an issue....but getting better.  Kidneys are functioning at about 96% of what they were.  My irregular heart beats are still a problem, so I have to have a new med to hopefully control that.  If that does not work, it will be a pacemaker for me.  So much for enjoying the "golden years."  

Best wishes to all of you and i really was sad that Debi and I could not get to SLC for the reunion events and dinner.

Dave, I did not know about your health issues, we had talked about knee surgery, but I had no idea about the other problems. Please take care of yourself. I would really like to see you again. Please let me know when your in the SLC area, and I will let you know when I am going to be in Houston. We have an office in Houston and at one point we were going to oversee the design and construction the Houston Justice Center. The cost was too high and the city could not afford it. So It died. Take care I hope to see you soon.

All went well.  Nowhere near as bad as I was expecting.  I had a post-op a[ppointment today.  Vision in that eye is tons better.  I go back in 3 weeks.

Hey  I just got off the phone with Les Deyoung.

Many of you probably know he was in terrible car accident a few years ago. It left him in a wheelchair and paralyzed from the waist down. 

He has a great attitude and with the help of his wife Vivian they make the most out of each and everyday. Les still lives with constant pain which hasn’t gotten any better over time. 

Les and I go way back. We met at Wasatch Jr. High School. He  comes from a wonderful family. His mom got Les and I good paying summer jobs at Hill Field watering trees.  Funnest  job I ever had. 

People were always somewhat in shock when they saw two 6’8” giants walking down the road watering trees only wearing shorts. That was our summer dress code. 

We talked about getting together for lunch. Les was ok if I invited anyone from our graduating class to join us. 

We our planing on having lunch at the Midvale Mining Cafe on January 23rd at 2:00.  It is located at 390 W 7200 S Midvale.

Greetings from SE Texas (where it is "supposed" to be warm).  The deep freeze blowing straight down from the Arctic Ocean has taken over and the very cold weather is upon us.  Yesterday morning it was 30F at dawn and this morning it was 27F.  Tomorrow morning we are supposed to wake up to about 5 to 8inches of SNOW on the ground. and Wednesday morning it will be about 20F at dawn.  Supposed to be below freezing from about 10:00 tonight until early afternoon Wednesday.  Houses down here are not built for this kind of weather; maybe 20 degree differential (like in summer), but definitely not 50 degree differential like we will see .  

I am getting too old for this crap.  :(

Dave, when we were in school my mom had a place in Park City. When it got real cold we would run a trickle of water to keep the pipes from freezing. When we lived in Houston in1981 to 1983 we had a cold snap hit. I was out that night and noticed water was freezing. So when I got home  let a little water trickle all night. Next morning woke up, took a shower and headed out. That's when I saw all my neighbors with water/ice on their driveway everyone with broken pipes. We offered out home so they could have water and bathe their kids. We all had young kids. So let a little water trickle tonight to avoid frozen pipes in the morning. Stay warm my friend.

The snow here was forecast to start at midnight last night.  At first it was just a bit of ice crystals. When i woke up this morning, I find about one inch of accumulation and that it is actively snowing.  Still just crystals.  Not the snowflakes that one imagines.  Temperature fell to about 25F and it is currently a balmy 27.  Supposed to snow until about 9:00 am and then it moves off to the east.  Tomorrow morning, we will be down to 20-21F or so.  

I always dribble the faucets when it is like this.  And we set the washer and dishwasher to run in the very early morning, just to keep water moving.  And our pool has a "freeze protection" setup.  It automatically turns on the pump and the pump for the pool cleaner if the air temperature goes down to below 38.  And the heater will come on if the water temperature goes below 50F.  Again, moving water does not freeze as readily. 

So all is well this morning.  I will go check on my neighbors in a bit and make sure they are all doing okay.  And by Saturday it will be back to normal for January down here; 40s for the low and 60s for the high.......  Winter lasts for days down here, not for months like Utah and the Rockies.  I took some pics.  Will figure out how to post them in a bit.

My cousin and our classmate Tom Stout passed away last week. A celebration of life will be held this Saturday March 15th. The link to his obituary is in the "In Memory" section. I know he enjoyed meeting up with his friends, especially his football player friends, at our 50th reunion. God speed.

I was really sorry to learn of Tom passing. I spoke to him breifly at the reunion. I did not know Tom well, but always enjoyed visiting with him. He was a kind sole that was easy to like and talk to. He was always positive and enthusistic about practice and life. All my best!
